Overview
CompBuddy is the app your competition uses to keep pilots and the safety team connected — from the moment you register until the last task of the meet. Everything you need day-to-day lives on one home screen: your pilot ID and QR code, retrieve, today's and tomorrow's schedule, today's task, and daily feedback.
Your Home Screen
Pilot ID & QR code
Your competition pilot number is shown front and centre — tap it to copy it. Below it is a QR code staff can scan to instantly pull up your record, e.g. at a checkpoint or at the retrieve desk.
Radio frequencies
If the organiser has configured safety and retrieve radio frequencies for the competition, they're shown right on your home screen so you always have them to hand.
Retrieve
How retrieve works depends on how your competition has configured it — you'll only see the method that applies to you:
- CompBuddy retrieve (in progress) — a single toggle switch. Turn it on when you need to be picked up, then tap "Send My Location" to share your exact GPS position with the retrieve team. Turn it off once you're safe.
- WhatsApp retrieve — two buttons pre-fill a WhatsApp message to the retrieve number: "I'm safe, no retrieve needed" or "I'm safe, need retrieve" (the second one attaches your current location as a map link).
- Flymaster retrieve — retrieve is coordinated through your Flymaster tracker and a Telegram bot; your home screen shows the exact registration and status commands to use.
Messaging
The chat icon in the top bar opens notifications and direct messaging with the competition safety team — oneway initiation from the organization. For important massages that should not get lost in the WhatsApp groups.
Daily Feedback
After each task, CompBuddy asks you a short set of safety-related questions ("Daily Feedback"). There's also a "Feedback Overview" screen showing the aggregated answers from all pilots, so you can see how the rest of the field is feeling about conditions, not just submit your own.
Flying at more than one competition, or helping out as staff too
Two small icons can appear next to your name in the top bar:
- Switch Competition — appears if your account is registered in more than one active competition. Tap it to jump between them; CompBuddy reloads everything for the competition you pick.
- Switch Role — appears if you're registered as both a pilot and a staff member in the same competition (common for pilots who also help with retrieve or checkpoints). Tap it to flip your view between the pilot screens and the staff screens, instantly, without logging out.
