1. Create your CompBuddy account
Onboarding starts with a normal account — a real email address and password, not a device code. Your account is yours across every competition and every device.
- Install CompBuddy and open it.
- Tap Create Account and enter your first name, last name, email, and a password.
- Check your inbox for a verification email and tap the confirmation link.
- Return to the app and log in with your email and password.

2. Get linked to your competition
Logging in on its own doesn't put you in a competition — CompBuddy needs to know which pilot record on the competition is yours. There are two ways this happens, and you don't need to do anything different for either:
- Invite email — if the organiser has sent pilot invites, follow the link in that email; it links your account to your registration automatically.
- QR code / account ID — otherwise, open Settings in the app to find your personal QR code and account ID, and show it to the competition office. They scan it (or type in the ID) to connect you.
Until you're linked, the app shows "You're not part of any competition yet" with a Check Again button — tap it any time, or just reopen the app once you know you've been connected.
3. WhatsApp registration
Once you're linked to a competition, CompBuddy needs to confirm a WhatsApp number the safety team can reach you on. Tap Open WhatsApp — the app pre-fills a registration message with your competition, pilot number, and date of birth already in it. Just send it as-is.

4. Review your competition data
After WhatsApp confirms, CompBuddy shows your registration data pulled from AirTribune for you to check and complete:
- Your personal details, contact info, licences, and insurance — pulled in automatically; some fields can be edited directly in the app.
- Glider & harness — pick your manufacturer and model from the built-in equipment database (it autocompletes size and weight range), or just type them in if yours isn't listed.
- Glider certificate — the app shows whether one is on file at AirTribune; depending on the competition's settings, you may need to upload one there before you can finish registering.
Safety Buddy
Required before you can complete registration. Pick another pilot in the competition as your safety contact for the event.

Tick the confirmation checkbox and tap Confirm & Complete Registration. That's it — you're now on your pilot home screen.
